Sunday Funday

with Dressed to Kill, Mind/Cryme, and The Priest

Written by Chris Keating

Sunday the 21st of January marked the debut of Saint Rocke’s new “Sunday Funday” series.  Aimed to provide an earlier afternoon experience, rather than an evening show, the event was a three tribute band lineup; Opened by The Priest, a tribute to Judas Priest, followed by a dip into the 80s with Chris Kelley’s MindCryme, a tribute to Queensrÿche, and ultimately culminating with Dressed to Kill, a resonant tribute to KISS.

Each band brought accuracy and flare to their renditions.  The most standout examples of such were Chris Kelley’s clear falsetto vocals, breaking through even the most daring and intimidating notes with confidence and style, as well as the production quality of Kiss. Bringing an entire makeup team with them, the band was able to nail the makeup and costuming of the entire band, most notably Gene Simmon’s battle ax guitar, and red dyed tongue.

Each performance was punchy and bold, bringing a reverent and electric energy into the crowd.  Fans were cheering after solos and flashing the classic “rock and roll horns” with their hands all throughout the night.  The lights matched the ambiance with pops of color and sweeping beams dancing over the crowd.

The night culminated with “I was made for loving you”, as the whole crowd cheered and sang along with the performers, who stuck their microphones out over the crowd so the audience could participate in the song.  Any fan of Kiss would feel right at home at a Dressed to Kill show, and should keep an eye out for the next time they come back to Saint Rocke.
